WHAT IS REIKI

Reiki uses universal energy to stimulate our body’s natural healing ability. It helps to clear energy blockages, your chakras, and allows universal life-giving energy to flow through your body. There are also five Reiki Principles offered as guidelines for a better life.

 

WHAT ARE THE REIKI PRINCIPLES?

Anyone can incorporate these Reiki Principles into their life to help change your outlook on your life. They are not rules, but rather, suggestions or guidelines to add balance and perspective to your life.

These guidelines offer a good, basic philosophy for health and well-being. A way of living your life by how we think, feel and act. Are we counting our blessings, living with honesty, and showing compassion for others?

These principles don’t mean you will never feel angry or worried, but rather use the principles as guides back to the type of life you want to live.

Humans have a hard time living by these concepts fully, so we have to keep striving toward these principles if that is what we have determined we want to do. These principles help us strive toward self-awareness, find peace within ourselves and live in the present of “right now.”

HOW TO USE THEM

**Recite them daily during your meditation.  Doing this is actually setting the intention to live by these principles.

**You may lose your balance during the day or drift away from following the Reiki Principles, but just begin again.  Say the principles to yourself or think about a few things that you are grateful for and why.  This will also raise your vibration as I discussed in my post on Raising your Vibration.”

**Start a journal where you can write your feelings on each of the principles or how you did during the day or how you can do better tomorrow.  This will help as a guide to look back at when you may be “stuck”.  Learn from what you have already written.

**Choose one principle to concentrate on per day or week until you know how you want to use each one.

**Practice then practice more, but remember this is a journey and none of us are perfect.   There is no right or wrong.

 

WHY USE AND IMPLEMENT THE REIKI PRINCIPLES INTO YOUR LIFE

The power of the spoken word is huge, especially when it’s our “self-talk”.  Our self-talk helps determine our actions and how we live our lives.

Some of the questions that usually are asked about these principles has to do with why the statements seem to focus on negativity such as anger and worry.  But actually these principles first give us those thoughts and feelings that most of us don’t like and then the following principles are those that we want to embody instead.

You can only get to the “good” principles once the feelings you don’t want, are faced and then released.  Only then, can we balance ourselves by moving toward the honesty, kindness, and love most of us prefer.

The principles also teach us to stay mindful of the here and now by stating “just for today.”  And when you think about it, all any of us can really do is take care of what is happening in our lives at any given moment.  We can’t  live in the past or the future, but just “now”.  We can embrace these principles for the future, but we can only act on them in the present because that is the only place we can truly be.

Robin Sharma, one of the world’s top leadership experts and best-selling author says:  “Each day is your whole life in miniature, and that how you spend your days, so do you spend your life.  Trust that every positive action that you take today, even if only for today, will reverberate throughout all of your future days.”

Let’s look at each principle individually.

 

JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL NOT WORRY

Worry comes from our fear and changes nothing.  All it does is cause stress, anxiety and then more worry and is your ego trying to take over.  It’s a vicious circle that causes an imbalance in the one doing the worrying.  Worrying about what is to come is a habit that you have developed that achieves nothing; therefore, all the worry is doing is wasting your energy.

Instead….

Realize that your worry over something that may or may not happen will never change the outcome.  Determine what is below the surface that is causing your worry and face it head on.  Try and approach the situation from the angle of positivity and open-mindedness.

JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL NOT BE ANGRY

Anger is destructive and is really our ego, taking over.  Figure out your triggers that cause your anger.  Only then can you overcome them and get your control back.  Until then your anger or whom or whatever you are angry at, has the power.

Instead…..

Pull yourself back and try to understand what is below the surface making you angry.  Train yourself to look at the situation making you angry, in a calm, positive way.  This keeps your power with you; you are no longer giving it away.

JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL DO MY WORK HONESTLY AND WITH INTEGRITY

When you hold back from doing your absolute best, you are holding back the helpful gifts you have been given.  Not using your relevant gifts for your jobs or anything else you are doing is denying yourself and others of those gifts.  When you hold back your gifts, in essence, you are cheating those around you and yourself.

Instead……

Do your best in all things you do.  Go into work each day with the full intention of doing your absolute best by sharing all your given talents to perform your job to the best of your abilities.

 

 

JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL GIVE THANKS FOR MY MANY BLESSINGS

 

Don’t concentrate on the materialistic things that money can buy.  Everything around us in today’s world wants us to always be aware of what we don’t have.

Instead…..

Stop and take the time to see the many blessings you have been given.  And if you have taken the time to keep a “grateful” journal, it will help you see all those blessings.  Put your focus and thinking on these.

JUST FOR TODAY, I WILL BE KIND TO ALL LIVING THINGS

What we think and do is put out into the universe.  It is remembered and comes back to you according to the Law of Attraction.  So, ditch the negativity in your life from your thoughts and actions, to the negative people that you may be keeping around.

Instead…..

Remember thinking positive, kind thoughts and doing kind deeds is what the universe will send back to you.  What you give is what you receive.  And those positive thoughts also include our “self-talk.”  We also need to be honest with ourselves and accepts ourselves for who we are.  Positivity and kindness helps everyone shine, including ourselves.

CONCLUSION

The basis of these principles is simple but may feel hard to follow on a daily basis.  The idea is to get us to strive to learn and live within these principles.  By concentrating on the positive of these guidelines, our lives can’t help but be affected by this positive change.
