Wow, I was doing some research for some post ideas I have planned. I put the word “trending” in the search engine and what came up the most, was basically fashion and beauty. Being female, I got detoured from my research and had to look at some of the articles on these trends.
Most of us would admit that this past year has been a bit weird. Having been in quarantine and not being able to go out to get hair and nails done (to name just a few things), most of us found new ways of doing these types of things.
For instance, wearing masks, we could give up on the lipstick, so many started playing up their eyes. Some even went so far as to ditch the foundation, opting to go “au naturale.”
I could and did embrace this concept wholeheartedly. But I admit to probably taking this concept to far as I still can’t bring myself to start using mascara again. This is the result of working from home so much—something I really don’t want to give up!
During this time, my make-up has become old, so going through my vanity will be something I’m going to have to do very soon and get re-stocked again.

My Take On These Trends
I must say that I was surprised by some of the things that are trending this year. And some of these I say Ugh to. Many of us have decided to stick with the minimilism on our make-up, choosing to look more natural while others are now going bold and bright to make an in-your-face statement. Let’s go through a few things I came across.
Bright Blue Eyeshadow
Really? Oh my, I hope most of us leave this “trend” to the younger girls. I’ve lived through the blue eyeshadow twice now and it doesn’t look any better that I can see. I can handle the subtle blues/greens but save me from the bright colors on other’s eyes!
If this is a look that you like—go for it. I just have one piece of advise. If you are going big on the eyes, take it easy on the rest of your makeup. Make the one big statement and don’t have anything else in competition with the look of the bright eyes.
Curtain Bangs
I had to look this one up because I’ve never heard this term before. Turns out its just your hair parted in the middle with your bangs ending somewhere between your eyes and upper check bone.
I’ve been through this look before too. My take—not bad, especially when your hair is pulled up in the back. (psst, guess what we are using to pull our hair up??)
Having lived through this trend before, I already know that this style of bangs tends to look good on most of us. So, I can see why this cut is trending right now.
Claw clips
Again, this is a trend that we have seen before and about 10 years ago was a big no-no, to my chagrin. I’ve always liked these clips because it’s a quick way to pull your hair up when needed.
And the really good thing—you can dress this look up or down because you can find all kinds of these big hair clips. Plain-n-simple to elaborate designs with pearls and gems. Stock up on these ladies as the prediction is these will keep getting more elaborate as the year goes on.
French Nails
I love this look and think it is very classy—my take. So, I say, why mess with a good thing. However, the growing trend on this nail look is to now add some kind of design on the plain part of the nail on several of your nails. Say, three of the ten.
This look I can handle as long as the extra design is just on a few of the other nails. Otherwise, it takes away from the nice clean look of the french nail. What do you think?
Eyeliner
If the bright eyeshadow is too much for you, you can give bright eyeliner a try. You can now find liner in many different colors that can get mixed or matched together and with or without glitter, for a look all your own.
If you don’t want to go wild right off the bat, try just sticking with the cat eye liner look until you get used to this new look.
As for me—I’ll pass.
Red is the Color
The hair color trend for this year is red, but surprisingly it’s not brighter reds like scarlet or copper. Rather go for nice warm tones especially to frame your face. Use the almost red, but not quite, color range. These warmer colors around your face will brighten up your look.
I like this idea but am too chicken to try it out myself. Hats off to the gutsy ladies that can try this look and get away with it!
This Year’s Shoe Trends
Now we’ve hit upon my favorite. Yep, I’m a shoe hog. Can’t seem to help myself. When I see a pair of cool shoes, that aren’t priced too outrageously, I gotta have them. And I refuse to admit how many pairs of shoes I have! I truly love some of the shoe styles that I see are considered trendy this year.
Clogs
I can’t believe clogs are in style again, but I’m soooo glad. Talk about easy to wear shoes, that’s clogs or mules. I hate tying shoes, so these are just the thing. Clogs/mules can be very casual and also pretty dressy. You can’t go wrong with this shoe style, at least, not in my book.
Flip Flops
This shoe has grown up again and is now being called the “fancy” flip flop which basically means you can find them with a heal now. I’ve had these before when they were trendy way back when. Loved them then and love them now.
A different take I see this go around is a chunky heel. You can still get the little “pump” like heel that I owned years ago, but the flip flop looks great with the chunky heel of present day too.
Run out and get some—you’ll love them!
Embellished Sandals
Something else, I’m seeing this year is sandals that are embellished with anything from pearls to beads to metal snaps and studs.
Loafers
I love the thought of loafers. This is a really basic, need in your closet, shoe. But I can’t handle the thick soles that are found on so many of them right now. Don’t know if its just me, but these thick soles cause me to trip going up stairs. Not a pretty picture, is it!!
Final Thoughts
I stayed away from fashion in this post, due to the fact that I’m in transition right now with my clothes, because of weight loss. Instead, I just picked out things that I knew I would have an opinion on one way or the other when I came across them.
I can’t say that I’m big on following trends. That’s partly because I already know what will look ok on me and what would look ridiculous, so that is what I tend to stick with.
I’d love to hear what you think about any of these trends. How do you feel about them? Do you think I’m being too harsh on some of the trends, or do you agree?
Stay Awesome!

Hi Cher, this is really fun. Guess I have some shopping to do. I’m still not going for the blue eye shadow. It gives me flashbacks to junior high.
Thank you!
Hiya Katie:
I’m with you on the blue eye shadow, lol. I couldn’t help myself when I came across these things, I just had to share! Glad you enjoyed it.
